Executive Summary

The Opportunity:

As a leading social and community sector agency based in Tamaki Makaurau and Te Tai Tokerau, Man Alive provides an ever-increasing range of services to men to enable them to engage effectively in society. Man Alive promotes positive models of manhood, healthy behaviours, and respectful loving relationships.

Man Alive’s current Chief Executive has resigned after leading a series of changes to Man Alive’s vision, mission, systems, processes, and branding. The Man Alive Board is now looking for a new Chief Executive to take it forward. The organisation is in a strong position, and significant growth opportunities are on the horizon.

The Role:

As the face of the organisation the Chief Executive is accountable for working with the Board to develop the strategic direction and for ensuring the achievement of the strategy. The Chief executive is also responsible for securing and implementing growth opportunities. Man Alive operates in an environment of constant change in community needs and policy and funding arrangements and is increasingly involved in collaborative work with other agencies.

As the successful candidate you will ensure that all aspects of the business are working effectively – including negotiations and relations with funders, service delivery and performance, financial management, staff and contractor management, and stakeholder management. You will both support the managers and staff in leading and running the day-to-day operations and grow the organisation to take up new opportunities while always protecting the wairua of Man Alive, its core values, and viability.

The Candidate:

As the successful candidate you will have:

  • Over five years of senior management experience, including in social service delivery, financial management, negotiations, and staff/contractor management
  • Excellent skills in the development and delivery of the organisational strategy and operations
  • Experience in managing key stakeholder relationships
  • An understanding of Te Ao Māori values, commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, and experience working with Māori
  • An understanding of the role of the Not-For-Profit/Community sector in New Zealand
  • Experience in delivering organisational and workforce development
  • A formal tertiary qualification in a field relevant to the position i.e. a degree in health or social services.
