EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MEDICAL SERVICES

CANDIDATE INFORMATION PACK

LIMESTONE COAST LOCAL HEALTH NETWORK

Executive Summary

The Organisation

The Limestone Coast Local Health Network (LCLHN) is the provider of public hospital and community based health services in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. With a new CEO, the network has an ambition to provide great care, all the time, and recognizes that effective medical leadership working directly with the CEO and highly skilled leadership team is critical to this. The network is also seeking to grow its clinical services, to be a respected and effective provider of medical training across a range of specialties, and to have a significant presence in clinical research.

With a wide range of in-hospital, aged care, community, disability and mental health services offered at multiple locations across the region including Mount Gambier, Bordertown, Keith, Kingston, Lucindale, Millicent, Naracoorte, and Penola, the LCLHN serves a diverse population of over 67,000 people in one of the most desirable parts of South Australia. The network employs over 1,400 staff. What makes this job an exceptional opportunity is the organisation’s commitment to growth and development and its desire to engage its community in achieving this aim. Clinicians are encouraged to work collaboratively and are supported by an executive leadership team that prioritises safe, high quality and consumer-directed healthcare. The current strategic plan (2021-2025) reflects a focus on local governance, performance excellence and collaborative partnerships. Work to develop a new Strategic Plan will commence in 2024.

The Role

The Executive Director Medical Services position presents an unparalleled opportunity to shape and build our LHN, and to grow and thrive as part of a highly experienced leadership team, and wider network of EDMS’s across South Austraila. This role will help shape the future of the medical workforce and healthcare delivery in a vibrant regional setting and influence rural health care beyond the Network. As the host of the largest and most specialized South Australian hospital outside of Adelaide (in Mount Gambier), the network presents a visionary medical leader with an opportunity to develop service and training models which can inform and guide clinical practice in other settings, in a range of medical specialties including Rural Generalism.

As a key member of the executive team, you will help to oversee and drive clinical services across multiple sites, ensuring the highest standards of patient care. You will be involved in fostering collaborative relationships with clinicians, stakeholders, and community partners to enhance service delivery and to promote clinical research and innovation in healthcare leadership and clinical practice. With a strong focus on quality improvement, workforce development and strategic planning, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the network’s mission to be a trusted leader in the delivery of progressive and consumer-directed healthcare. This position offers a unique blend of leadership, clinical expertise, and strategic vision, making it an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic medical leader. Opportunities exist to expand the Medical Leadership model through the establishment of a deputy position, and the organisation is well placed to offer specialist training in Medical Management and Leadership (RACMA).

The Candidate

The ideal candidate for the Executive Director Medical Services role will demonstrate a blend of effective leadership, clinical credibility, and an ability to both manage change in a complex setting, and be truly strategic. You will have a track record of inspiring and leading multidisciplinary teams towards excellence in service delivery, teaching, training and research. Growing the medical workforce with strategic recruitment and retention of doctors, oversighting their clinical education, and professional development, and contributing towards service planning and delivery will be principal areas of the role’s focus. Your strategic acumen should be evident through successful initiatives that enhance patient care, improve efficiency, and drive organisational growth. Excellent communication and effective stakeholder engagement abilities are essential. You should be able to demonstrate a commitment to and a deep knowledge of the national safety and quality agenda including an ability to drive continuous quality improvement. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the healthcare setting, along with strong financial management skills are also required.
