THE OPPORTUNITY
Monash Health is Victoria’s largest and most comprehensive health service, providing safe, high‑quality care across more than 40 locations to a rapidly growing and diverse population. The Specialist Consulting program delivers over half a million consultations annually, spanning the full range of clinical specialties across all Monash Health sites. This includes face‑to‑face and virtual telehealth services, with telehealth expected to remain a substantial component of care delivery. Supporting community‑based referrals, inpatient transitions, and alternative pathways to hospital admission, Specialist Consulting plays a critical role in Monash Health’s integrated service model. This role presents a unique opportunity to lead a program undergoing significant transformation, redesign, and growth, ensuring that services are future‑focused and responsive to community needs. Recruitment for this role forms part of a recent broader organisational restructure at Monash Health, incorporating a more contemporary and future-fit leadership structure across all Divisions. THE ROLE
Reporting to the Divisional Director, Hospitals and Clinics, the Operations Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the Specialist Consulting program. This includes oversight of outpatient clinics (excluding Victorian Heart Hospital and community specialist clinics), operational managers, and administrative teams across multiple sites. The role is accountable for delivering safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care, achieving financial and operational targets, and driving service reform. It will foster collaboration between medical specialties, nursing, administrative teams, and other service partners to enhance patient access, streamline pathways, and support innovation in models of care.
THE CANDIDATE
You are an experienced healthcare leader with a strong background in managing large, complex, multi‑disciplinary programs within a tertiary health service. With tertiary qualifications in nursing, medicine, allied health, or health management (and AHPRA registration or professional eligibility), you bring expertise in operational governance, strategic planning, and service transformation. You are a collaborative and forward‑thinking leader, committed to delivering accessible, efficient, and patient‑focused specialist consulting services, fostering workforce engagement, and driving innovation. Postgraduate qualifications in management, leadership, or health administration are essential (or you are actively working towards them).

Role Specification
Functions, responsibilities and accountabilities of the Operations Director Specialist Consulting in addition to those on the overarching Operations Director position description
The Operations Director Specialist Consulting, is responsible for the following specialities and services within this portfolio:
- Specialist Clinics at Monash Health (excluding Victorian Heart Hospital and Community specialist clinics)
In addition to the responsibilities and accountabilities required of an Operations Director position, the role will also be responsible for:
- Partnering with Operations Director / Directors of Nursing, Operations Directors and Program Directors to:
- lead high performing teams within the Specialist Consulting program to provide consistent, comprehensive, collaborative care for our local community,
- to provide comprehensive and effective operational leadership across all clinical teams in Specialist Consulting.
- Facilitate effective collaboration between medical specialty units, their medical leadership teams, and the Specialist Consulting operational, nursing, and administrative teams to further contemporise the way we work.
- Develop innovative models of care to deliver timely, effective, safe, and efficient health care.
- Oversee the transformation specialist consulting work across Monash Health including future service expansion opportunities to meet increasing community demand.
Specific key criteria for this position in addition to those on the overarching Operations Director position description
- Tertiary qualification in nursing/midwifery, medicine, allied health or health management related field
