Within its Surgery and Statewide Services Division, Radiology at Monash Health is one of the largest departments in Australia and the largest in Victoria, delivering over 350,000 examinations per year across Monash Medical Centre, Monash Children’s Hospital, Dandenong, Casey, Moorabbin, Kingston, Cranbourne, and the Victorian Heart Hospital. THE ROLE

Reporting to the Divisional Director, Surgery and Statewide Services, the Operations Director provides strategic and operational leadership for all Radiology services, including medical, therapeutic, and interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and advanced imaging modalities such as MRI, PET, and CT. The role is accountable for delivering safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care, achieving financial and operational objectives, and supporting innovation in clinical service delivery. It also plays a key role in fostering collaboration with medical, academic, and research partners, enhancing patient outcomes, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement across the portfolio.

THE CANDIDATE

You are an experienced senior healthcare leader with specialist qualifications in radiology or a related discipline and current registration in Victoria. With a proven track record managing complex, multi‑site services in tertiary health environments, you bring expertise in operational and clinical governance, financial stewardship, and strategic planning. You are an inclusive and innovative leader, committed to delivering safe, high‑quality imaging services, advancing research and education, and driving service improvement and workforce engagement. Postgraduate qualifications in management, leadership, or health administration are essential

Information specific to the Radiology portfolio

Performing over 350,000 examinations per year, Monash Health Radiology is one of the largest departments in Australia and is the largest in Victoria. The Radiology department within Monash Health offers a full range of medical, interventional and therapeutic radiology and nuclear medicine.

As an academic leader, we conduct evidence-based and researched clinical radiology. We strictly adhere to the ALARA principle, to ensure the doses are “as low (dose) as reasonably achievable”. We regularly and voluntarily submit our CT dose readings to ARPANSA (Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency), and they are consistently and significantly lower than the national average.

The Operations Director - Radiology will partner with the Program Medical Director, Radiology and are accountable for leading and managing all radiology services and operations. The specific accountabilities will include the delivery of agreed service profiles, financial performance within budget, and ensuring the highest levels of quality and safety. The delivery of these will be supported by managing risk, patient safety and clinical governance within the site and ensuring that effective systems are in place to support a high standard of practice.

This role will be integral in setting the behavioural framework and culture of the site and will be responsible for the effective management of employees and their development, supporting clinicians to identify opportunities for new services and changes in the way we provide services.
