THE OPPORTUNITY

Monash Health is Victoria’s largest and most comprehensive health service, providing safe, high‑quality care across more than 40 locations to a rapidly growing and diverse population. As part of the Medicine, Aged, Community and Mental Health Division, the Allied Health program delivers inpatient services across Casey Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Monash Medical Centre Clayton, Moorabbin Hospital, and the Kingston Centre. The program encompasses physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition and dietetics, social work, speech pathology, spiritual care, and other disciplines, playing a critical role in optimising patient outcomes and supporting multidisciplinary care. This leadership role presents a unique opportunity to drive system‑wide improvement and innovation across one of Victoria’s most complex allied health portfolios. Recruitment for this role forms part of a recent broader organisational restructure at Monash Health, incorporating a more contemporary and future-fit leadership structure across all Divisions. THE ROLE

Reporting operationally to the Divisional Director, Medicine, Aged, Community and Mental Health, and professionally to the Chief Allied Health Officer, the Operations Director provides strategic and operational leadership for bed‑based Allied Health services across Monash Health’s hospital network (excluding Monash Children’s Hospital and Mental Health). The role is accountable for delivering safe, high‑quality, evidence‑based care, achieving operational and financial objectives, and fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. It will also lead workforce development initiatives, drive integration and service redesign, and ensure the program is positioned to meet the needs of a growing and ageing community.

THE CANDIDATE

You are an experienced allied health leader with a proven track record in managing complex, multi‑disciplinary services in large healthcare organisations. With an Allied Health qualification, current AHPRA registration (as applicable) or eligibility for professional membership, you bring expertise in operational governance, financial management, and strategic service planning. You are a collaborative and innovative leader, committed to advancing integrated care, building workforce capability, and driving continuous improvement in patient outcomes. Postgraduate qualifications in management, leadership, or health administration are essential (or you are actively working towards them).

Information specific to the Allied Health portfolio

Together with doctors and nurses, allied health practitioners are regarded as the third pillar of health care providers in Australia.

At Monash Health, more than 1,000 allied health practitioners play a critical role in diagnosis, recovery and quality of life for people of all ages across all specialties. You will find allied health practitioners in our hospitals, facilities and community and mental health services.

Practitioners work in multi-disciplinary teams with medical and nursing staff to facilitate quality, effective and efficient health care. Allied health practitioners may deliver direct patient care or provide support in diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and health improvement interventions to restore and maintain optimal physical, sensory, psychological, cognitive and social functions.

The Operations Director Allied Health’s role scope encompasses all bed-based allied health services (excluding Monash Children’s Hospital and Mental Health) at Casey Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Monash Medical Centre Clayton, Moorabbin Hospital, and the Kingston Centre.

The program is integral to the operations of the Divisional Director, Medicine, Aged, Community and Mental Health and is a key partner of all other operating programs delivering adult, inpatient care at Monash Health.
