THE ROLE
Reporting operationally to the Divisional Director, Hospitals and Clinics, and professionally to the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, the Operations Director / Director of Nursing provides strategic and operational leadership across Moorabbin Hospital. This includes accountability for oncology wards, surgical services, and the chemotherapy day unit. The role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care, driving workforce engagement, achieving financial and operational objectives, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. It also plays a key role in strengthening research partnerships and service innovation to meet evolving community needs.
THE CANDIDATE
You are an accomplished senior nurse leader with significant experience managing complex hospital operations, ideally in oncology or specialty care environments. With current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and postgraduate qualifications in management, leadership, or health administration (or working towards them), you bring demonstrated expertise in clinical and operational governance, strategic planning, and financial management. You are an inclusive, collaborative leader committed to advancing patient‑centred care, building high‑performing teams, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Moorabbin is home to Monash Cancer Centre, a premier integrated cancer treatment centre. It provides people of southern Melbourne and beyond with access to treatment, care and support services in a single convenient location, delivered in longstanding partnership with the renowned Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
The Operations Director/Director of Nursing (DON) Moorabbin Hospital will be accountable for leading and managing the operation of the portfolio.
The specific accountabilities will include the delivery of agreed service profiles, financial performance within budget and ensuring the highest levels of quality and safety. The delivery of these will be supported by managing risk, patient safety and clinical governance within the Program and ensuring that effective systems are in place to support a high standard of practice.
This role will be integral in setting the behavioural framework and culture of the site and will be responsible for the effective management of employees and their development, supporting clinicians to identify opportunities for new services and changes in the way we provide services.

- Holds a strategic leadership portfolio aligned with a Program Medical Director, ensuring coordinated clinical and operational priorities across the service.
