THE OPPORTUNITY
Metro North Health is seeking a dedicated executive to support the development of business wide leadership of procurement and supply functions.
You will be instrumental in embedding best-in-class procurement strategies, supply chain resilience, and commercial governance practices that deliver long-term value, optimise service delivery, and support Metro North Health’s commitment to high-quality, value-based patient care.
THE ROLE
The Executive Director, Procurement and Supply is responsible for leading Metro North Health’s strategic and operational objectives through the delivery of efficient and optimal strategic Procurement and Supply Chain practices.
The role is responsible for providing business wide leadership to enable a high performing and centralised procurement capability, including the development and implementation of strategic and operational sourcing, procurement, contracting and supply management strategies and processes.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate:
- Experience in both direct and indirect procurement categories, in order to provide guidance to managers within the team and a deep understanding of ‘best in class’ for both the strategic and transactional elements of the procurement function.
- Change management skills with a demonstrable record of extending procurement into new categories and transforming procurement into a high performing, strategic function.
- Extensive senior management experience, with demonstrated capability in developing, leading and managing a large high performing team and demonstrable experience of successfully working in a complex environment.
- Extensive experience in the governance of procurement and contract management. Understanding of how to link procurement to the delivery of commercial value and balancing that with compliance to internal risk management appetite and regulatory demands.
- Effective in working strategically whilst maintaining a good handle on the detail and broad business skills that enable real contributions to be made to the broader supply chain / business agenda.
- Strong people and delegation skills and a visionary, dedicated, hard-working, creative, professional.

Role Specification
The Executive Director, Procurement and Supply is responsible for leading Metro North Health’s strategic and operational objectives through the delivery of efficient and optimal strategic Procurement and Supply Chain practices.
The role is responsible for providing business wide leadership to enable a high performing and centralised procurement capability, including the development and implementation of strategic and operational sourcing, procurement, contracting and supply management strategies and processes.
The role is also responsible for the following:
- Direct and establish a cost optimised, flexible, responsive and customer focussed procurement function.
- Maximise contribution from suppliers, indicated by on-time deliveries, cost reduction, quality improvement and innovation.
- Lead a strategic procurement transformation to optimise the performance of all spend categories across Metro North’s $900M non-labour expenditure.
Metro North Health is seeking a dedicated executive to support the development of business wide leadership of procurement and supply functions.
You will be instrumental in embedding best-in-class procurement strategies, supply chain resilience, and commercial governance practices that deliver long-term value, optimise service delivery, and support Metro North Health’s commitment to high-quality, value-based patient care.
This successful applicant will carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health’s values:
- Lead strategic stakeholder engagement across MNHHS and the Department of Health (where appropriate) to develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy that optimises MNHHS’s position as Queensland’s largest HHS, maximising value for money and driving innovation.
- Establish and lead a largely self-sustaining and highly regarded procurement function by recruiting, developing and coaching talented procurement professionals in an environment and organisation that stretches and develops each member of the team to their full potential.
- Strategically influence the design and implementation of best-in-class procurement processes, systems, and tools, including e-procurement and data management solutions, to ensure optimal management of all non-labour expenditures and seamless operational execution.
- Forge and maintain strategic partnerships with critical suppliers, positioning MNHHS as a preferred customer to secure commercial advantages and enhance supplier performance through collaborative engagement.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance procurement and supply chain capabilities, driving cost efficiencies, risk mitigation, and the realisation of sustainable value year on year.
- Provide visionary leadership in managing procurement risks and issues, ensuring that robust mitigation strategies are in place to safeguard the organisation’s operations and financial interests.
- Direct the governance and assurance frameworks for procurement, ensuring compliance with all legal, statutory, and policy obligations, and reinforcing the integrity and transparency of procurement activities.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration within MNHHS, influencing key decisions at Senior Executive Committees and Strategic Governance Committees to align procurement objectives with broader organisational goals including Metro North’s Health Equity Strategy.
- Drive strategic initiatives that support organisational resilience, including the development of contingency plans for supply chain security and the optimisation of asset and resource utilisation across the Health Service.
- Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, providing expert guidance on procurement, commercial, and supply chain matters that influence the overall direction and success of MNHHS’s operational and strategic objectives.

- The ideal candidate would have 15+ years’ experience in leading procurement/ supply chain functions.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications are highly desirable
- Desirable Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) certified
- Track record of leading large, complex procurement functions that have consistently delivered excellent performance.

- Considerable experience in both direct and indirect procurement categories, in order to provide guidance to managers within the team.

The total remuneration package range is from $256,051 - to $276,661, inclusive of:
- Base salary (superannuable): $196,509 – $214,547
- Superannuation (12.75%): $28,955 – $31,285
- Allowances (Vehicle): $27,581
- Relocation: Negotiable (not included in above figures; often handled as a separate one-off cost)
- Salary sacrifice: Available under Queensland Health provisions
