Our vision: Great Care for Central Queensland

Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS) provides public health services across Central Queensland, in hospitals and in the community. Central Queensland QHHS is a statutory body governed by a health Board. CQHHS serves a growing population of approximately 250,000 people and employ more than 3,700 staff, delivering more than 700,000 episodes of patient care each year.

The health service has a diverse geographic footprint, ranging from regional cities to remote townships in the west and beachside communities along the coast.

Person-Centred Care

At CQHHS we are committed to delivering person-centred care, which is about being respectful of, and responsive to, the preferences, needs and values of consumers. A person’s care experience is influenced by the way that they are treated as a person, and by the way they are treated for their condition. The goal for CQ Health is to deliver high-quality care that is safe, of value and to provide an ideal experience for all patients, their carers and family. Person-centred care is the foundation for achieving high quality care. Focusing on delivering person- centred care, and on doing it well, will enable CQ Health to be successful in achieving better outcomes for consumers, better experience for consumers and staff and better value care.

Strategic Vision

The Strategic Vision for the Health Service is called: Destination 2030: Great Care for Central Queenslanders – This long-term strategy is designed to:

  • deliver great care for Central Queenslanders
  • improve the health of Central Queenslanders
  • shape the future of hospital and healthcare across our region.

The Central Queensland Region

The Central Queensland region covers more than 115,000 square kilometres; the region is nearly twice the size of Tasmania and presents significant challenges to our patients, consumers and staff in accessing and delivering hospital and healthcare across a diverse coastal, urban and rural landscape. Communities rightly expect local care; however, this must be balanced with the delivery of sustainable health services.

Rockhampton Hospital is developed as the regional hub. Rockhampton Hospital provides support to other hospital sites in a hub and spoke clinical network, reducing the need for travel to Brisbane, and reducing the need for travel within Central Queensland.

Gladstone, Emerald and Biloela hospitals also provide support to the network of smaller hospitals across the region, helping this network of provide local access to important hospital and health services.

Hospitals and health centres in CQHHS include:

  • Rockhampton Hospital
  • Gladstone Hospital
  • Biloela Hospital
  • Emerald Hospital
  • Capricorn Coast Hospital & Health Service - Yeppoon
  • Mount Morgan Multipurpose Health Service
  • Baralaba Multipurpose Health Service
  • Moura Multipurpose Health Service
  • Theodore Multipurpose Health Service

LIVING AND WORKING IN ROCKHAMPTON

Rockhampton is a booming city; a modern throwback to the heydays of Queensland’s colonial past, offering all your cosmopolitan conveniences in a contemporary riverside setting.

There are plenty of places to keep the kids occupied including the newly redeveloped Riverbank Precinct, the beautiful Botanic Gardens and Zoo, which is proudly home to more than 70 species of native and exotic animals, and a must do for families is a visit to the recently opened Kershaw Gardens Central Precinct - Playground and Water Play area!

And when the sun sets on the mighty Fitzroy River, premium dining can be found along the heritage-listed streets, with some of the best steak houses, restaurants, pubs, clubs and cocktail bars found anywhere in regional Queensland.

Rockhampton is the heart of the Fitzroy Basin, Australia’s second largest river system, and bordered by the brooding Berserker Ranges, ultimately delivering the best of both worlds for outdoor and adventure buffs.

Visitors to Mt Archer National Park can now enjoy outstanding views of Rockhampton from the new Nurim Circuit Elevated Boardwalk extending 25 metres outward and 7.5 metres high on the mountain top.

The Southern Great Barrier Reef prides itself on quintessential Queensland heritage and you simply can’t experience the Rockhampton of today, without an appreciation of days’ past. Once upon a time, Rockhampton was Australia’s northernmost city and even touted as the future state capital, thanks largely to the region’s thriving resource and beef industries, which continue today.

Housing

Compared to national real estate averages, Rockhampton’s housing affordability is exceptional. It’s a great place to live, work and raise a family.

Whether you’re looking for an urban riverside inner-city apartment, a classic Queenslander, a homestead on acreage or a modern family home, Rockhampton has a place to belong for everyone. Schools, shopping centres and medical facilities are located in all quadrants of the Region.

The Central Business District sits between hilly ranges surrounding the city. Heritage buildings integrate into the Riverside Precinct, nestling up against the Fitzroy River. Sprawling residential suburbs surround the city. The current growth corridor is to the north, along both sides of the Bruce Highway.
