THE OPPORTUNITY

Enable New Zealand Ltd is looking to appoint its new Chief Financial Officer / Commercial Director (CFO).

Enable New Zealand’s vision is to enable people and their whanau to live their best lives in a non-disabling society. They do this by effectively managing environmental support and rehabilitation services to over 120,000 disabled people and their whānau each year. Services are delivered on behalf of the Ministry of Social Development and the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC).

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Chief Financial Officer/Commercial Director (CFO) is a permanent full-time role based in Palmerston North. The role is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for leading the organisation’s strategic financial strategy encompassing financial operations, financial control, capital, resource deployment, accounting compliance, growth and performance.

The position will also oversee Enable New Zealand’s commercial approach providing best practice financial leadership to ensure robust commercial decision making and financial sustainability.

Duties include ensuring accurate financial planning and budgeting, and ensuring financial controls are managed according to legislative requirements, company policy and direction. They will also analyse the company's financial strengths and weaknesses to support organisational growth.

This position demands a unique blend of financial acumen and commercial insight, along with strong leadership and strategic vision. The CFO plays a crucial part in steering the organisation towards its financial and business goals, while maintaining sustainable financial practices.

THE CANDIDATE

Critical to success will be at least 5 years’ experience working in a similar leadership role at a senior level within a complex organisation. The successful candidate will be a Certified Accountant (CA) or a qualification that will ensure registration as an ICANZ member. Also important will be extensive experience working with a board of directors and committees, and experience in developing approaches for business growth and financial sustainability.

The Chief Executive in conjunction with the Board sets the governing strategy for Enable New Zealand, and on a minimum of annual basis this strategy will be reviewed with the board and broader leadership team.

In 2024 Enable New Zealand established three long term strategic goals that act as a signpost that reflects the organisation's overarching strategic direction. The goals are positioned to provide a specific focus on the customer, the organisation, and the sector and are aligned to the Enabling Good Lives Principles (EGL).
